CODE OF CONDUCT AGREEMENT
The code of conduct outlines expectations of the wineries and of the limo/tour/bus companies for the conduct and behavior of tour groups visiting member wineries. This code of conduct should be reviewed by the party prior to departing on their journey, and may be referred to during the trip if necessary. We hope to create a great experience for your group's wine tasting.
The Code of Conduct is the core element of this program. By all wineries promoting, supporting and defending this Code we are hoping many of the difficulties experienced with large groups will diminish measurably.
The wineries and transportation companies expect:
- Good and respectful behavior
- Common courtesy to all
- Appropriate noise control
- Respect for other customers and the winery staff and facilities.
The wineries and transportation companies will not tolerate any illegal or anti‐social behavior including, but not limited to:
- Intoxication
- Theft
- Underage drinking/fake ID's
- The use of illegal drugs
- Indecent exposure
- Excessive profanity
- Public urination
- Violation of open container laws
- Littering
Tasting room etiquette:
- Drink Responsibly. Those little ounces add up! It is a short drive between each winery and an excellent opportunity to quench your thirst with a non‐alcoholic beverage.
- Our wineries are located within rural communities, with neighbors in close proximity who enjoy the quiet country life. Please be respectful of our farms and communities by keeping your stereo and voice volume down.
- Our wineries are family oriented businesses. Many of our visitors bring children into our tasting rooms. Our own children are often present on the property. Please be respectful of others in your language and behavior. Offensive clothing or items will not be permitted on premises.
- Each winery has a different tasting fee and it will be explained to you by your host at the tasting room bar and each winery's tasting policy is listed on its individual page in this booklet for your convenience and reference.
- Every tasting bar provides a spill bucket for unwanted wine. This allows you to taste several wines without over imbibing and is placed on the bar for your convenience.
- If a tasting bar provides crackers or some other neutral food it is there for the purpose of cleansing your palate between tastes. Not all wineries provide this and you may wish to bring in your own neutral food, for example, oyster crackers.
- Be patient with your wine server. Wine tasting should be an educational and enjoyable experience for you and all customers in the tasting room.
- Remember as you are enjoying your tasting experience with your friends that there are many other customers in our tasting rooms. Please keep your voice volume at a reasonable level.
- Many of the wines you will taste are available only at the winery so if you enjoyed it and your budget allows, by all means purchase it so that you can enjoy it and remember what a great time you had visiting our wine trail!
- State Liquor Laws do not allow the consumption of outside liquor products on our premises. Therefore, all beer, wine from other wineries and champagne must remain in the limo.
- Please dispose of your cigarette butts and trash in the appropriate containers. In many cases, these wineries are our homes and we appreciate you respecting them as such.
- Should any guests demonstrate lewd or drunken behavior, the winery may choose to refuse service at their discretion.
Explanation of penalties:
The YELLOW CARD (term borrowed from soccer) is a simple card that would be given to the limo driver and/or group leader in the event that a winery feels the group is not meeting the code of conduct. This card will be drafted to include a non‐adversarial statement suggesting that the group review the code of conduct and offer suggestions on improving conduct at future stops. (e.g. Stop for a picnic and frisbee, refrain from drinking wine and/or beer in the limo, suggest to their rowdy peers to sit out the next winery, etc.) Our hope is that if the group is gently reminded, their conduct may improve by the next winery. When a YELLOW CARD is issued, the winery would attempt to contact the other wineries on the groups itinerary and give them a "heads up" that the group is coming. This would enable the receiving winery to be proactive in guiding the group into better conduct and a great experience for the remainder of their day. When a winery issues a YELLOW CARD, they would also submit a simple form to groupwinetours.org, or their Trail office, with essential data to be stored in the database.
The RED CARD is like the YELLOW CARD, but is issued in response to more seriously infractions that amount to breaking the law. (e.g. Serious belligerence, violence, theft, etc.) The RED CARD will be drafted to include a reference to the code of conduct and a recommendation to the driver and group that they not visit any more wineries.
In summary, rowdy groups will be sanctioned with Yellow Cards or Red Cards. A Yellow Card is intended as a warning, giving the group an opportunity to control itself before visiting the next winery on its itinerary. A Red Card will result in the offending group being limited, or denied access, to additional wineries for the remainder of the day.
Upon determination that any of the above policies were violated, Metropolitan Limousines may terminate service and shall be deemed to have fulfilled its contractual obligations under the initial agreement.
